William Barton joins Dheeraj Shrestha, Australia’s leading exponent of the tabla, and Topology, a highly acclaimed and inventive quintet of strings, saxophone and piano, to create genuine cross-cultural music. These friends are united in their enthusiasm for musical exploration and communication.
Topology get together with didge legend Will Barton and Dheeraj Shrestha, Australia’s best tabla player, for some soaring musical travelling, moving over a vast terrain from the intricacies of North Indian rhythm to blissful string textures.
Both Will and Dheeraj show their strengths as composers of chamber music, before letting fly in spectacular solos. The two artists have worked with Topology to devise a whole collection of new works, many showing an influence from Topology’s work with minimalist pioneer Terry Riley. They’ll combine ecstatic rhythmic interplay with lush orchestral textures, traditional Australian melodies, jazz-tinged indie and a few surprises in the mix. Join some of Australia’s leading musicians for a journey across all sort of musical borders.
