The Brisbane Pride Festival is very proud to present the 50th Golden Anniversary Queen’s Birthday Ball Awards. Founded by Brisbane’s legendary Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke, the Queen’s Birthday Ball grew from very humble beginnings to be the longest running gay and lesbian event in the world. To celebrate its golden anniversary, this year’s Queen’s Ball is be held at one of Australia’s most iconic venues, Cloudland in Fortitude Valley, on Sunday 12th June 2011 starting at 6pm. Featuring shows throughout the night from South East Queensland’s best drag performers including Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke and venues like The Sportsman Hotel, The Wickham Hotel, Fluffy and Escape with a special guest DJ (to be announced soon) and the presentation of twelve awards voted by the general public for outstanding achievements in the GLBTI community.
Gold is the theme for this year’s Queen’s Birthday Ball Awards so attendees are encouraged to dress up to the theme of gold. Paint yourself gold, come as Cleopatra covered in gold sequins or even as James Bond in Gold Finger. The awards for “Belle Of The Ball” and “Themed Group In Costume” will be judged on the night. Because of the great new venue, this years party will continue on with DJs after the awards, so expect to party the night away in style.
Tables for 10 people cost between $400 to $500 (depending on location and availability) and include 2 bottles of champagne and canapés. Tables are limited and with the huge interest shown in them already they will not last long. Tickets bought online are $30 plus booking fee or $30 at the door or through selected venues.
