The best improvisers from around Australia. So clever they don’t even need a script.
Welcome to the Off the Cuff Festival, Brisbane’s only showcase of unscripted theatre. Brisbane’s favourite improvised comedy company ImproMafia is bringing the best performers from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra to the Visy Theatre for three nights only. Off the Cuff will feature unique theatrical experiences across a broad range of styles and genres. The festival will climax in spectacular fashion on Saturday 1 October with the 2011 Theatresports Nationals. Six states compete – but only one can be champions. Don’t miss this festival dedicated to the spontaneous and joyful art of improvised theatre.
Thurs 29 Sept – Program 1
Stuck in the Middle (ImproMelbourne) – A diabolical blend of improvisation and torture, this show forces one performer to remain onstage constantly, and respond to the beck and call of their fellow actors.
The Displaced (ImproACT) – This is a theatre performance that explores what it’s like for ordinary Australians to be asked to leave what they know. A vivid and genuine experience for the audience that shows the happiness, joy and relief of new beginnings.
Prognosis: Death! (ImproMafia) The staff of St Love Hospital must battle supernatural threats in this high-octane medical sci-fi melodrama. With schlock horror and scalpel-sharp wit, you’ll lose your heart, your mind… and possibly your kidneys.
Fri 30 Sept – Program 2
Agatha Holmes (ImproMafia) – Britain’s best detective is on the case of murder most foul. The audience decides the killer, the motive and the weapon – and it’s up to Agatha Holmes to solve the mystery. 
Ultimate Board Game Unscripted (Impro Australia) – Forget Farmville. Bring along your favourite board game and Sydney’s best improvisers will use it to inspire their performance.
In a New York Minute (Spontaneous Insanity) – Lives are created, interwoven and forever altered in Perth’s gripping web of joy and tragedy. In a New York Minute, anything can change.
Sat 1 Oct – Program 3 Theatresports Nationals
The Theatresports Nationals is an annual competition that pits Australia’s best improvisers against each other. In 2011, Brisbane is hosting this battle royale for the first time ever. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT will all compete for the title of Australian Champions.
